22 Years of serving the communities of Hook, Odiham, Hartley Wintney and the surrounding village

Out with old and in with the new...

It's that time of year for the Lions when everything changes... almost all the members have taken on a new role at the club, and while we've been busy with our new roles, our focus has still been on serving the communities of Hook, Odiham, Hartley Wintney and the surrounding villages. We continue to help many people on an individual basis, but here's a round up of our higher profile activities:

The Hartley Wintney Festival - 13th June

Again we've worked closely with Hart Rotary Club to put on the Hartley Wintney festival. In addition to the more enjoyable tasks like awarding prizes, manning the Sumo wrestling and penalty shoot out attractions, the Lions also get involved in the less glamorous activities, programme selling, setting up and breaking down the arena, manning the road closures, litter picking etc.

All these activities are necessary and our time means that everyone can enjoy a great day out for very little cost. Of course we had lots of fun too, and raised money for a worthy cause - the Odiham Cottage Hospital.

Once again the weather was glorious, and over 3,000 people attended the event. If you didn't get there this year, don't miss it next year, it really is a fantastic summer day out.

FunFest - 28 June 2009

Each year at Calthorpe Park school we get together with other local Lions clubs to host a day specifically designed for disabled people of all ages and their families. This unique environment enables participants to get the most from the attractions and participate in activities they might not normally try, and which many of us take for granted. The extra time and support that is available to them makes a huge difference, and this day is considered by many of our members to be their favourite in our calendar of community support activities.

If you believe that you, or someone you know, might benefit from attending this event next year please contact us so that we can make sure an invitation is sent at the appropriate time next year.

New Members

Our club has grown significantly over the last year, and in June we had 2 new members join - Jan Sharp, and Margaret McAllister. I am sure that they will enjoy being members of our club, make the most of our social calendar and contribute to the communities we serve.

New Web Site

We have re-vamped our web site, there's up to date information about what we've been doing and the coming events.

Coming Events

The next major event in our Calendar is the Duck Race at the Crooked Billet on the 19th September why not come along for some lunch, sponsor a duck, enjoy the racing and help us raise some money for the Community Store in Fleet. You might even win a prize. See the our site for more details.

Are you interested to help others in your Community?

Why not take a look at the Lions to see how you can help us to help others, there are so many ways you can contribute, including:

• donating your old glasses, we can re-cycle them enabling someone else to see clearly.
• donating your unwanted furniture, we can give it to someone locally who really needs it.
• donating your time, if you have some free time we'll know someone you could help

Please contact us to see how you can help, or to discuss coming along to one of our lively meetings. We have many social activities, as well as those aimed at helping others, so come and see if you'd like to join in. We meet on the 3rd Monday of each month in the Raven Hotel, Hook at 8PM.
