Easter Eggs

Over the next few weeks we're raffling Easter Eggs at pubs across the area, so please buy a ticket!

Concert - Reading Male Voice Choir & The RAF Choir: The Spitfires

We are holding a concert at Elizabeth Hall Hook on Saturday 15th May Doors open at 7PM. This should be a fantastic concert and the money raised is to support Help for Heroes and "The Little Princess Trust". Tickets are £10 and available from Trees Newsagents in Hook, Elizabeth Hall, or call Chris on 01252 844036.

The money we raise helps peoples in all sorts of ways, and here are just a few of them:

Helping People Locally

Paultons Park - Sunday 9th May

Each year, along with other Lions clubs across the south of England, we arrange and subsidise a day trip to Paulton's Park for children and their parents who might not be able to go otherwise. Accompanying adults are asked to pay just £5 towards the cost of travel by coach, but entry is free. There are coach pick up points in Hartley Wintney, Odiham, and Hook. If you're struggling to give your children a treat and want to take them for a day out at Paulton's Park, then give Lion Chris Ainsworth a call on 01252 844036.

Helping People Nationally and Internationally

The money you help us raise goes a long way. Lions clubs working together can make a huge difference. Here are just a few of the good causes we support.

UNICEF: The United Nations Children's Fund

We support UNICEF to provide Edukits (a school in a box). The kits have the basic educational materials for about 40 students. They are used in areas without schools because of violence or natural disasters. The Edukit is designed to be a low-cost, rapid response to an emergency, by establishing a self sufficient classroom.

LIBRA:  The Lions International Blood Research Appeal

LIBRA raises funds to equip the department of Haematological Medicine at King's College Hospital in London, providing diagnostic equipment to help experts develop treatments for Liver disease, Alzheimer's, Parkinsons, Sickle Cell Disease, Diabetes and Leukaemia.

WaterAid

Provides water, sanitation and hygiene education to people in 26 of the world's poorest countries

Dentaid

Provides equipment, training and oral health services to hospitals, clinics and dentists in the developing world.

So Do you want to make some new friends and help us help others?

Why not take a look at the Lions, there are so many ways you can contribute, including:

• donating your old glasses, we can re-cycle them enabling someone else to see clearly.
• donating your unwanted furniture, we can give it to someone locally who really needs it.
• donating your time, if you have some free time we'll know someone you could help.

Please contact us to see how you can help, or to discuss coming along to one of our lively meetings. We organise many social activities, as well as those aimed at helping others, so come and see if you'd like to join in. We meet on the 3rd Monday of each month in the Raven Hotel, Hook at 8PM.
