2009 Duck Races
Reports of Lions in the Whitewater River chasing ducks on the 19th September are well founded. This was no massacre of waterfowl, but one of our bigger annual fund raising events. Ten heats of 200 colourful plastic ducks were followed by a final. Last year there was too much water, this year there was nearly too little, as the river level dropped dramatically over the day. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, and to all the spectators, who supported us in the fantastic late summer weather in the Crooked Billet garden. As well as a great day out, we raised £1,500 for the Community Store charity in Fleet which supports so many needy people in our area.
The lucky prize winners were:
£200 1st Prize Claire Janaway - Hook
£100 2nd Prize Marcus from Dorma - Germany
£50 3rd Prize Jane Shilling - Hartley Wintney
The first 3 ducks in each heat also won a bottle of wine:

Are you interested to help others in your Community?
Why not take a look at the Lions to see how you can help us to help others, there are so many ways you can contribute, including:
donating your old glasses, we can re-cycle them enabling someone else to see clearly
donating your unwanted furniture, we can give it to someone locally who really needs it.
donating your time, if you have some free time we'll know someone you could help
Please contact us to see how you can help, or to discuss coming along to one of our lively meetings. We have many social activities, as well as those aimed at helping others, so come and see if you'd like to join in. We meet on the 3rd Monday of each month in the Raven Hotel, Hook at 8PM.
