2009 Hartley Wintney Festival
Record crowds attend Festival
Universally agreed as the most successful ever Hartley Wintney Festival was attended by over 5000 people on the Oak Common in the centre of the village.
Hook Rotary, ably assisted by the Hook & Odiham Lions organised this popular village event.
The afternoon started with a large procession around the village in which local schools and playgroups competed in the theme of "Heroes and Villains"
Prizes were awarded to:
- Pre-school Category was won by Oakwood Community Playgroup for their depiction of Knights Princesses and Dragons.
- School Category was won by Greenfield Junior for their depiction of Robin Hood and his merry men.
Rotary President, John Smith, presented a cheque for £3000 to Odiham Cottage Hospital being the profit from the sale of Festival programmes.
In a full filled afternoon Hart Inner Wheel ladies did a magnificent job selling 1600 burgers and hotdogs and the Rotarians sold 1500 pints of beer.
The crowd were entertained by the "Norman the Doorman" in the main arena where Children's races took place followed by the ever popular village "Tug of War". Kate Parish's team won the ladies prize and the men's team from Church View took the prize of a barrel of beer.
The rest of the green was filled by 65 local stalls representing local charities.
In the ever popular Classic Car, Motor Cycle & Agricultural Equipment Show, Terry Lewis's beautiful 1965 Jaguar E-Type won the overall best in show prize.
Rotarian Bill Bishop, Chairman of the organising committee, thanked all the Rotarians and Lions who worked tirelessly for two days to set up and clearing the green completely by 7pm that night.
