Odiham Fireworks & Halloween Spooktacula 2018

Where you at the Odiham Spooktacula 2018 on Beacon Field on 27th Oct evening?

If you didn't come, you missed a really great evening! Not only did you miss the fantastic fancy dress competition, which was closely fought by even more entries this year, but you also missed our first ever carved pumpkin competition.

Just five entries but all of an excellent standard. Perhaps we will have even more next year?

If you did come, you would have enjoyed all of the usual favourites; wine and beer from our friends at the Bowls Club, the ever popular German Sausages, the equally popular 'Tea Cup Ride', and Flashy Lights, whilst new this year was 'Coffee in a Horsebox', mulled wine and hot chocolate from our local Scouts and their Leaders and a Bouncy Castle.

This year your local Lions listened to requests and introduced debit card readers at the gate for the first time at any of our events. It proved an overwhelming success and will become a fixture at all our future events, so thanks for asking.

Then at 7pm silence ... the crowds gathered ... the count down, lead by our friendly Vampire DJ Alan, and WOOSH! The fireworks started!! And went on for a fantastic full 20 minutes.

Now some of you may have noticed a couple of unusual silent gaps, but they didn't last long and our firework expert John, soon found the naughty fuses and we were back Banging, Ohhing and Sighing in no time, but Sorry about that.

This was our 4th Spooktacula and it grows a little each year and so does the crowd that attends. This year was no exception, so we will start planning Spooktacula 2019 soon and try and add a little more again, but if you have any suggestions or requests then please let us know and we will see if we can make if happen.

Thanks again to all our Sponsors, Suppliers, Odiham Parish Council and to YOU for making it a great evening!

All that was left for your local Lions was the feeling of a job well done, a little more money for our Lions Charity Account and clear up in car headlights and rain.

See you all again next year on Saturday 26th October, Beacon Field in Odiham.

Hook and Odiham Lions enjoyed a splendid evening on Saturday 24th November at the ODIHAM  Extravaganza! Despite the poor weather I think it was the biggest crowd of people seen at this event.
Particularly THANK YOU to everyone who bought our Hamper raffle tickets. We took £341 to  support our Charity. I hope the 2 winners enjoy their prizes.

Once again Hook and Odiham Lions assisted Windsor Lions Club at their Horse Ride through Windsor Great Park.  The weather was ideal on both days for both us and the riders.  We, and other Lions Clubs, help Windsor Lions because the event is too big for them to run on their own. This is an excellent example of Lions working together to help others.  The riders are sponsored to raise money for their own special charities as well as Windsor Lions making money for their charitable activities.

This means that our preparations for Christmas are gaining pace.  Father Christmas has once gain agreed to accompany us on our tour of the area and the full details will be published next month but he will be with us in November at Newlyn’s Farm Shop on Saturday 17th  and Sunday18th November.  He will also be visiting the Middlemead area of Hook on Thursday 29th November starting at 6:00pm.  He has to start in November this year to allow us to fit in all our visits!  The Lions will also be at the Odiham Extravaganza on Saturday November 24th with their Christmas Hamper Raffle.  We look forward to seeing you there.

If you would like to help us during the Festive Season, or at any other time, then please contact us via our phone or the website.

In the past couple of months we have helped a local family with a terminally ill father and husband,  the Whitewater Health Clinic to purchase Asthma Testing equipment and the Sunflower Café in Odiham which provides Free refreshments and activities for people living with dementia and their carers every Wednesday.

For Lions, Christmas is not all about raising money, but also about helping those less fortunate than ourselves.  Do you know anyone who could do with a little bit of help to make their Christmas special?

We would like to bring some happiness to those who are on their own or who are struggling to make ends meet.  If you know someone who would appreciate a little help then please contact us, once again, via the website or the Lions phone.
